Step functions
From Math Wiki
Step functions are a lot like regular functions but they round the number up or down based on the symbol given with it. So instead of a straight line a step function looks like a couple of stairs, without the vertical lines. Because a vertical line cannot be a function.

Useful tip:
Always remember that when evaluating step functions, you know how to use the correct square brackets for rounding!
For example:
[x]- these square brackets means to round down!!
- [6.1]=6 ~Because of the type of square bracket, you would round down when evaluating this function, which is why the anwser is 6.
- [3.8]=3 ~The same goes for this example, because you round down, your anwser is 3.
