Direct Variations--

     y varies directly with x

EQUATION- y = kx

You will be given numbers for x and y. simply use algebra and solve for k

You will be given another number for x ; use your answer for k above and solve using algebra.

you will then come up with the answer to y

EXAMPLE-

x = 3 2 = k3 y = 2 -3 -3

           -1 = k

x = 11 y = (11)(-1) k = -1

          y = -11

Inverse Variations--

EQUATION- y = k/x

Same process as above except without multiplying... dividing.

EXAMPLE-

x = 9 18 = k/9 y = 18
