I can solve inequalities involving one variable.

# Example

**10 > 4x + 2**

** 8 > 4x** *(subtracted 2 from both sides)*

** 2 > x ** *(divided both sides by 4)*

## Careful

* For the problem below, notice how the inequality switches from > to < because we **divide by a negative number**

* (the same is true whenever we multiply by a negative number)*

**10 > -4x + 2**

** 8 > -4x** *(subtracted 2 from both sides)*

** -2 < x ** *(divided both sides by -4)*
